With the new school year starting soon, the Town of Milton is reminding everyone — drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians — to stay alert and follow road safety rules.
📅 Starting Monday, August 25✅ School zone flashing lights will be activated, requiring motorists to slow down to 40 km/h near schools when lights are flashing.✅ Families are encouraged to use pedestrian crossings, including push-button rectangular rapid flashing lights, for safer passage.✅ Crossing guards play an essential role in keeping children safe — drivers must stop when a guard raises their stop sign and only continue once both the guard and pedestrians are clear.
🚗 Some schools also have Kiss & Ride zones to ease congestion, especially for kindergarten students and children with special needs. These areas will be monitored by Town by-law staff using license plate recognition (LPR) technology.
👮♀️ To reinforce safety, Project Safe Start by Halton Regional Police kicks off the same day (Aug 25 – Sept 5). Officers will be focusing on speeding, stop signs, school buses, seat belts, and school zones.
🗣️ Mayor Gord Krantz reminds the community: “Each September, it’s important to be alert as roads get busier with some of our youngest road users. Let’s be road wise and follow traffic rules to keep students, families, and the community safe.”
