A 21-year-old man from Milton is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped by police in downtown Guelph over the weekend.
According to Guelph police, officers were conducting patrols in the downtown core shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, when they noticed a vehicle making a turn at an excessive speed. Police initiated a traffic stop and requested a roadside breath sample from the driver, which resulted in a failure.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where additional testing confirmed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit. As a result, the Milton resident has been charged with impaired driving.
His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is expected to appear in court in February.
Guelph Police Service is reminding residents to plan ahead if consuming alcohol or cannabis and to never drive while impaired. Anyone who believes a driver may be impaired is urged to call 911 immediately.
