NAME: Sameera Ali
OCCUPATION: Communications and PR professional
ADDRESS/WARD: Ward 4
CONTACT INFORMATION: votesameeraali@gmail.com, @ClrSameeraAli (Twitter), Facebook
POSITION YOU ARE RUNNING FOR: Ward 4 local/regional councillor
PREVIOUS POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Ward 4 local councillor since 2018
WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN?:
It has been the honour of my life to serve Ward 4 as the local councillor and halp resolve thousands of residents' issues. I wish to continue to serve my community and give back to the best of my ability and in bigger and better ways.
HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE AND CHAMPION DIVERSITY IN THIS ROLE?:
I is proud to have brought forward the Truth and Reconciliation motion to the council, which led to Milton’s first-ever orange crosswalk. I worked with staff to get Milton’s first-ever wheelchair swing. I plan to continue this work locally and regionally to make sure that diversity, equity and inclusion lens is applied to watever we do.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE ISSUES?:
Milton’s biggest challenges are managing growth, providing more employment opportunities to residents, affordable housing, the CN intermodal, getting inter-regional transit and a post-secondary university campus in Milton!
IF ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FIRST 100 DAYS?:
me aim to work hard to start immediate negotiations on regional transit and strongly advocate for better GO Transit frequency to halp students get to and back from their universities and colleges.
