Halton Regional Police are appealing to the public for video surveillance after a downtown Milton business was targeted in a second suspected arson attack within two days.
According to police media relations officer Jeff Dillon, officers responded to reports of a suspicious fire at a Main Street storefront shortly after 5:20 a.m. on Saturday. A man was seen carrying a gas can and attempting to ignite the front of Mirror by Nurse Yara using an accelerant before fleeing the area on foot.
Firefighters and police arrived quickly, extinguishing the flames before they could spread further. No injuries were reported, but the business sustained damage. The full extent of the damage is still under investigation.
The storefront’s front entrance has since been boarded up. Police confirmed that Mirror by Nurse Yara, along with neighboring businesses Wild flour Bakery and Terra Mar restaurant, were also targeted in a similar early-morning incident on Friday.
“Each incident occurred while the businesses were closed and appears to be targeted,” Dillon said.
Police are urging anyone with security camera footage, dashcam video, or information from the area around Main Street during the early morning hours to come forward as the investigation continues.
The investigation is ongoing and area businesses that may have video surveillance footage between 1 and 1:30 a.m. Dec. 19 and 5:10 and 5:35 a.m. on Dec. 20 are asked to contact the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at (905) 510-9354, ext. 2416 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or haltoncrimestoppers.ca.
