People who see many police, fire, and ambulance vehicles around Milton District Hospital on November 12 don’t need to worry.
Halton police and other emergency crews will be holding a training exercise at the hospital from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Constable Jeff Dillon said the exercise will simulate how first responders handle an “active attacker” situation. He explained that it will take place in an unused part of the hospital, so regular hospital services will not be affected.
Nearby schools have been informed, and parents have received notices about the event.
Halton Healthcare’s emergency preparedness adviser, Kassondra Stockman-Sousa, said these kinds of drills help police, firefighters, and hospital staff work better together during real emergencies.
She added that the training will happen in a small unused area and that all staff taking part are volunteers.
Parking Lot 2 at the hospital will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 12. However, drop-off areas will stay open, and hospital departments have already contacted patients and families who might be affected.
There will be signs, announcements, and handouts in different languages to let everyone know it’s just a planned simulation.
Stockman-Sousa thanked the community and staff for their cooperation and support.
