Kala 2025: A Vibrant Celebration of South Asian Art & Culture in Milton

Milton’s Holcim Gallery at the FirstOntario Arts Centre will come alive this spring with Kala 2025, a vibrant exhibit honouring local South Asian artists and their heritage. Presented by South Asian Mommies of Milton (SAMM), the exhibit runs from May 21 to June 7 and is part of the town's Asian Heritage Month celebrations.

This year’s theme, “Echoes of Home,” invites 45 artists to reflect on their cultural roots and childhood memories through powerful visual storytelling. Expect guided tours, workshops, and the chance to engage with artists shaping Milton’s cultural landscape.

SAMM founder Diksha Pal Narayan says the exhibit breaks language barriers through art, offering a space for connection and cultural pride. Artists like Nargis Naqvi, whose paintings are deeply influenced by her upbringing in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, highlight the emotional depth and personal narratives behind each piece.

Naqvi, a recurring participant since 2022, shares how her art blends faith, family, and identity, even recalling skateboarding as a child in Saudi Arabia—a rebellious joy captured in one of her works.

In addition to Kala 2025, SAMM is launching a Digital Kala showcase at the Milton Public Library (Sherwood Branch) starting May 15, open to young artists aged 10–17 across Milton.

These events are free to attend and aim to promote cross-cultural understanding while empowering emerging artists.
