Writer: Sana ShahidSana Shahid

Halton Police have charged a man with impaired driving after he allegedly struck two police vehicles upon being woken by officers.

Around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a citizen's report of a vehicle stopped on 15 Sideroad, east of Regional Road 25. Upon arrival, police found a truck stationary in the roadway, blocking both lanes.

According to police, the man in the driver’s seat had his eyes closed. When officers attempted to wake him, he suddenly accelerated the truck forward, colliding with a police vehicle. He then reversed and struck another police vehicle before officers were able to bring the truck to a stop and arrest him.

A 60-year-old resident of Killaloe, Ont., has been charged with flight from a peace officer, operation while impaired, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration.

Halton Regional Police no longer name individuals facing impaired charges.
