Milton Awarded $8.4M for Exceeding Ontario Housing Targets

ree

The Ontario government is giving the Town of Milton $8.4 million through the Building Faster Fund. This program rewards municipalities that reach at least 80% of their housing targets.

In 2024, Milton started construction on 2,260 new homes — almost 130% of its goal. Because of this, the town is receiving extra funding to help build more homes and improve local infrastructure like roads, stormwater systems, and walking and cycling paths.

The Building Faster Fund was launched in 2023 as a three-year, $1.2 billion program. It’s meant to help towns and cities speed up approvals and encourage more housing construction. Ontario is also investing nearly $35 million across Halton Region to support over 29,000 new homes, including $10.5 million for Milton.

Mayor Gord Krantz thanked the province, saying the money will help Milton create complete, connected communities and keep up with growth.

The province says it is also working on new laws to reduce red tape, cut costs, and speed up housing development across Ontario.

Quick Facts:

  • Between January and July 2025, Ontario had 12,175 rental housing starts — 21% more than the same period in 2024, and the highest on record.

  • Municipalities now have until 2028 to use Building Faster Fund dollars.
