Milton Council Reviews Proposal for 324-Home Subdivision Near Britannia and Bronte

Milton council was presented this week with details of a proposed subdivision that could bring 324 new homes to the town’s rapidly growing southwest. The development is planned for the northwest corner of Britannia Road and Bronte Street and includes a mix of housing types: 116 single-detached homes, 46 semi-detached units, and 162 townhouses. An additional 43 townhouse units are expected to be added once narrow adjoining land parcels are consolidated with the main site.

At Monday night’s council meeting, a planner representing the applicant explained a zoning amendment is being sought to bring those narrow parcels — currently owned by a neighbouring developer — into alignment with the larger Shady brook Development Inc. project.

The plan also outlines a potential “major node block,” which could host a combination of townhomes and three mid-rise residential buildings with approximately 115, 168, and 189 units respectively. A small green space appears in the centre of this block, which caught the attention of Ward 4 Councillor Sameera Ali.

“Parkettes are very, very important. And in that area... there are no parks, so this will be very, very important,” Ali emphasized.

Planner Karen Bennett confirmed the green area is “likely a little park” and assured council that community feedback would be considered moving forward. “I know our clients are listening tonight, and we’ll take that back,” Bennett said. “Anything proposed within that block will be in accordance with the MU zoning... and certainly your comments on the parkette will be taken back.”

No decisions were made at this meeting, which was held as part of the public consultation process.
