Milton Finalizes Transportation Master Plan to Guide Mobility Through 2051

The Town of Milton has officially finalized its Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Update—a strategic roadmap that outlines how the community will walk, ride, and drive through to 2051. Designed to align with Milton’s projected growth, the TMP aims to ensure the town’s infrastructure keeps pace with increasing population and economic development.

Endorsed by Town Council in December, the plan underwent a 30-day public review period ending January 31. Based on valuable community feedback, the Town made key revisions before publishing the final version online.

Highlights of the TMP Vision Include:

  • Expanding and upgrading key transportation infrastructure

  • Supporting the expansion of two-way, all-day GO rail service

  • Improving roadways, intersections, and addressing rural traffic concerns

  • Enhancing truck route management

  • Promoting sustainable travel by reducing single-occupant vehicle use

  • Implementing smart parking management and carpool incentives

  • Offering transit discounts to encourage public transportation

  • Creating a comprehensive road safety strategy and updating policies in the Official Plan

  • Launching a parking study to optimize parking availability

The TMP also introduces sustainability-focused initiatives, such as walking and cycling infrastructure, as Milton strives for a future-ready, efficient, and connected mobility network.

Mayor Gord Krantz stated:“As Milton evolves, we want to work with our partners to help people and goods move efficiently. This vision will help us make collaborative decisions that support urban and rural areas to meet the future needs of our growing community.”

Director of Planning also commented:“The TMP Update creates a vision for our transportation future that is proactive, accessible, sustainable, and inclusive of all modes of travel. Thank you to everyone who contributed insights to this important plan.”

The Town will continue refining specific projects as part of the ongoing annual budget process.
