Back-to-school season is here! 📚✨ On Wednesday, September 3rd, students across Halton — including Milton — will return to classrooms as both the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) kick off the 2025-2026 school year.
The HDSB is welcoming nearly 65,000 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, supported by thousands of teachers, staff, and administrators. After a summer of preparations, staff will take part in a PA Day on September 2nd for professional learning before students arrive. A big highlight this year: the opening of Harvest Oak Public School in Oakville, a new Sustainable Future School built for 750 students, featuring modern classrooms and on-site childcare.
The HCDSB begins the year with its 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, focusing on four pillars: Achieving, Believing, Belonging, and Becoming. Officials say the first day always brings a sense of renewal and opportunity, with schools ready to nurture academics, faith, and community. Parents are encouraged to use board and provincial resources to stay engaged throughout the year.
To support a safe start, Halton Police have launched Project Safe Start (running until September 5th). Officers will be monitoring school zones closely, focusing on speeding, stop signs, seatbelts, and school bus rules.
“September is an exciting time, but it’s also a reminder to slow down and stay alert,” said Chief Stephen J. Tanner of the Halton Regional Police Service. “Safety is a shared responsibility, and our priority is ensuring every child arrives at school safely.”
Residents can report driving concerns or request enforcement through police channels, while emergencies should always be directed to 9-1-1.
Both school boards are looking forward to a year of growth, learning, and collaboration with students and families across Milton and the Halton region.
