Local teens are coming together at the Milton Public Library to create a vibrant mural for its float in the upcoming Pride Halton Parade — and their work is more than just art.
In line with the “Pride 365” philosophy, which emphasizes year-round visibility and support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, MPL’s theme this year is “Read With Pride 365.”
“LGBTQ+ people are absolutely a part of the community, and the library is here to serve every part of the community,” said Corrina McGill, MPL’s Teen Services Librarian. “Especially these days, when people’s existence can be viewed as controversial — but existence can’t be controversial.”
The mural, painted on an eight-by-eight-foot canvas, showcases illustrations celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ identities and symbols representing MPL. Expect to see various Pride flags, queer authors, books, bees, and honeycombs — all tied to the spirit of Milton’s library.
There’s still time to get involved! Teens can join the final two drop-in mural sessions on:📅 Thursday, July 10 at 3 p.m.📅 Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m.
🎉 Don’t miss the Halton Pride Parade on July 20 at 2 p.m. along Main Street, followed by Pride in the Park from 3–8 p.m. at the fairgrounds!
Details about the parade and the MPL mural program are located on their respective websites.
