Milton woman celebrates $89,000 lottery win

A Milton woman is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after claiming more than $89,000.

Paramjit Walia won $89,171 in the LOTTO MAX second prize from the July 25 draw. The 56-year-old manufacturing worker says it’s her first major win after playing the lottery for many years.

Walia discovered her prize when she checked her ticket at a pharmacy. "The machine froze, and I was so excited,” she recalled while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect her winnings. “[My son] believed me right away and said I was so calm about it. Honestly, I still couldn’t believe it myself! We’ve kept the news pretty quiet and just carried on with our daily routines.”

She plans to take some time before deciding how to enjoy her windfall.

The lucky ticket was purchased at the Shell gas station on Dundas Street East in Mississauga.
