You could be receiving a cheque from the Ontario Government in the mail very soon.
The province has begun issuing $200 taxpayer rebates to eligible residents and their children, aiming to ease the financial burden caused by the federal carbon tax, rising interest rates, and economic challenges. These cheques are expected to arrive in households over the coming weeks.
“With Ontario families struggling due to the federal carbon tax, high interest rates, and global economic uncertainty, our government is stepping up as part of our ongoing work to keep costs down and help families make ends meet,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance. “Thanks to our prudent fiscal management, we can provide this critical support for families while continuing to improve Ontario’s finances and invest in our world-class public services.”
The cheques are being mailed to all Ontario residents eligible for the rebate. To qualify, individuals must:
Be 18 years or older and a resident of Ontario as of December 31, 2023,
Not have been bankrupt or incarcerated during 2024, and
Have filed a 2023 Income Tax and Benefits Return by December 31, 2024.
Families receiving the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) will also get an additional $200 cheque for each eligible child under 18. For instance, a family of five with two adults and three children could receive $1,000 in total support.
