On June 5th, the board chose the name Cedar Ridge Public School for the new elementary school at 815 Kennedy Circle West, in southwest Milton.
The name Cedar Ridge honors the ancient cedar trees that grow on the rock at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area nearby. These trees are over 800 years old and remind us to protect nature. The name celebrates these old trees and local history.
Earlier this year, Milton students, families, and community members suggested names for the new school. They received 1,044 suggestions with about 802 different names. A committee of parents, students, community members, Trustees, and staff narrowed it down to a shortlist.
The school is being built now and will open in September 2024. It will have space for over 750 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The three-story school will include modern classrooms, air conditioning with individual controls, a double gym, bus area, and drop-off zone. It will also have five childcare rooms for 88 children.
