Top Cyclists Compete at Milton Velodrome for Track Provincial Championships

Writer: Sana ShahidSana Shahid

Could the next world-class cyclists be spinning their wheels in Milton? History suggests it’s possible.

The Mattamy National Cycling Centre—a training ground for several Olympians, including Milton’s own Michael Foley—is set to host the 2025 Track Provincial Championships from February 28 to March 2. This year’s event carries added significance as the velodrome celebrates its 10th anniversary since opening for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

More than 200 cyclists—including adult, youth, and para-athletes—from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and the United States will take to the track, competing for provincial dominance in a variety of high-speed, endurance, and tactical events. Key races include:

  • Team Sprint & Team Pursuit – Showcasing speed and coordination.

  • Points Race – Testing endurance with strategic sprints.

  • Scratch Race – A thrilling all-out sprint to the finish.

  • Madison – A high-intensity relay race requiring seamless teamwork.

Among the many talented athletes competing, Miltonian Cole Dempster, a 2023 Junior World Championships bronze medalist, is expected to be a standout contender. The local cycling community will also be well represented, with riders from both the Milton Revolution Cycling Club and the Milton U23 Women’s Project Team.

With free admission, cycling fans and sports enthusiasts can witness the action-packed competition daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Canada’s only UCI-regulated indoor velodrome.

This prestigious event promises to be a thrilling showcase of emerging talent—perhaps even the next generation of Olympians.
