A residential home on Guelph Line in Milton suffered extensive damage following a fire earlier this morning.
Fire crews were dispatched just after 11 a.m. and arrived to find the single-storey bungalow, situated on the west side of Guelph Line north of Mohawk Racetrack, fully engulfed. Flames could be seen coming through the windows upon arrival.
Firefighters battled difficult conditions, including temperatures around -12°C, wind chills nearing -20°C, and the absence of nearby fire hydrants due to the rural location. Water had to be transported by tanker trucks from the nearest hydrant at Mohawk Racetrack.
Once crews confirmed the home was unoccupied, they shifted to a defensive firefighting strategy. Around 20 firefighters responded to the scene, assisted by five fire trucks and three water tankers.
Halton Regional Police temporarily closed Guelph Line between 5 Sideroad and 10 Sideroad to allow emergency crews to safely manage the situation.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
