Milton Man Charged in Tragic Death of Young Boy

A Milton man has been charged in connection with a tragic collision in London last December that led to the death of seven-year-old Dante Caranci.

Atir Gayyur Mir, 47, who was working as a courier at the time, faces a charge of dangerous driving causing death. According to London police, Mir was driving a 2023 Honda Pilot and failed to stop for a school bus with its lights flashing and stop sign extended. The young boy was struck while exiting the bus and passed away in hospital the following day.

The school bus driver, 82-year-old Jose Lema, is also facing a charge of criminal negligence causing death. Investigators state that Lema should have noticed Mir’s approaching vehicle and followed standard safety protocols.

Mir appeared in court last week and is scheduled to return in August. Lema’s next court appearance is set for late July.
