Milton Public Library Asks Residents to Share Family Recipes for New Seniors Wellness Program

The Milton Public Library is asking residents to open their family recipe boxes for a new program built around food, storytelling and connection across generations.

What Happened

According to FM101 Milton Now, the library has launched Nourish and Connect, described as a senior-led culinary wellness initiative funded through the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program. The program invites seniors, older adults and families in Milton and the surrounding area to submit treasured family recipes, with the goal of preserving culinary traditions and the personal stories attached to them.

A panel of local chefs will review the submissions and select 50 recipes based on factors such as cultural diversity, accessibility and ease of preparation. Five of those recipes will then be featured in community cooking workshops where participants can cook alongside local chefs and share their own stories.

Key Details

• The program runs from summer 2026 through March 2027.

• Activities include hands-on cooking workshops and nutrition education sessions.

• Food safety programming is being offered in partnership with Halton Region Public Health.

• Intergenerational events will bring seniors and youth together.

• Collected recipes will be compiled into a community cookbook.

Community Impact

Library staff say programs like this help build connection, confidence and a sense of belonging among older adults in Milton. By gathering recipes from many households, the initiative also captures a snapshot of the town's cultural diversity that can be shared with future residents through the planned cookbook.

How to Take Part

Residents interested in participating can submit a favourite family recipe through the program's online submission page. FM101 Milton Now reports that submissions are open now.
