Milton residents have shown incredible generosity in 2024, raising nearly $1.5 million for various causes through GoFundMe.
With a population of about 133,000, Milton ranked fifth on GoFundMe’s list of Canada’s top 20 most generous communities. Over 7,600 donors supported 204 campaigns this year, amounting to a 5.75% donor rate and a total of $1,489,494 raised.
One of the most significant campaigns was for Muhammad Saleem, a 55-year-old father of three who tragically died in a multi-vehicle crash on September 20. More than 1,700 donors raised $124,678 to support his family, far exceeding the original goal of $50,000.
Milton ranked highest among Ontario communities, followed by Brampton in sixth and Thunder Bay in eighth. Across Canada, Victoria, B.C., took the top spot for the second year, with a remarkable 21.3% of its population donating.
