Milton Students Walk Out in Solidarity, Demanding a Free Palestine

Writer: Sana ShahidSana Shahid

Flags waved, and young voices rose in unity during Wednesday afternoon’s Student Walkout for Palestine in Milton.

A few dozen students from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School marched to the intersection of Louis St. Laurent Avenue and Regional Road 25 around 1:30 p.m., chanting slogans such as “Free, Free Palestine! From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” and “Stop the Killing, Stop the Crime.” Both Palestinian and Canadian flags were held high alongside signs calling for peace.

The peaceful demonstration was met with honks of support from passing cars, and students remained respectful of those around them.

Although the walkout was publicly announced and open to students from St. Francis Xavier, Craig Kielburger, Elsie MacGill, and St. Kateri Tekakwitha, it appeared that only St. FX students gathered at the designated meeting point at Louis St. Laurent and RR25 around 2 p.m. The event was neither organized nor sanctioned by any school board.
