Milton to add 19 new electric vehicle charging stations.

The Ontario government is rolling out over 1,300 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across small and medium-sized communities, and Milton is among them!

Milton’s Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), Zee Hamid, announced that 19 new Level 3 fast chargers (200kW+) will soon be installed in town. This initiative is part of the government’s $63 million investment to expand public EV charging infrastructure in communities with fewer than 170,000 residents and in Indigenous communities across Ontario. Charging stations will be set up at 270 locations throughout the province, including public areas such as arenas, hospitals, parks, and recreation centers.

“With more than 201,000 electric vehicles on Ontario roads, we’re ramping up the number of charging stations to make life easier for drivers,” says Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification. “Our focus includes smaller and underserved communities across the province, giving parents and workers more reliable access during their daily commutes.”

Each new site will feature a mix of Level 2 and Level 3 chargers. Additionally, the government has introduced an Ultra-Low Overnight Electricity Price Plan and is considering an Electric Vehicle Charger Discount Electricity Rate to encourage EV use and help lower emissions. The new overnight plan allows EV owners who charge their vehicles at night to save up to $90 annually.

“Improving EV charging infrastructure is key to building driver confidence in electric vehicles,” says Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “By concentrating on small and mid-sized communities, we’re closing gaps in underserved areas to create a more connected charging network across Ontario.”

As of October 2024, more than 201,000 EVs are registered in Ontario, a figure expected to exceed one million by 2030.

“With $45 billion invested in Ontario’s EV and battery sectors over the past four years, our government is committed to establishing a fully integrated EV supply chain,” says Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade. “By expanding charging options beyond major urban areas, we’re supporting EV adoption for families and workers throughout the province.”
