The Milton Public Library (MPL) will host a special Indigenous Veterans Day ceremony next month to honor the contributions and sacrifices of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit veterans.
Observed annually on November 8, Indigenous Veterans Day recognizes the thousands of Indigenous people who served in the Canadian Armed Forces—often overcoming systemic barriers and discrimination to do so.
In the weeks leading up to the ceremony, MPL is inviting youth to take part in a series of craft workshops led by local Indigenous artist Wanda Wilson. Participants aged 13 to 17 will learn to bead poppy flowers and assemble them into a poppy wreath—a powerful and creative way to reflect on remembrance and pay tribute to Indigenous veterans.
All supplies are included, and youth can earn volunteer hours for participating. The next workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Beaty Branch Program Room.
