Tim Hortons Co-Founder’s Foundation Donates $2M for Scholarships at Laurier’s Milton Campus.

The Joyce Family Foundation has donated $2 million to create bursaries for students at Wilfrid Laurier University’s new Milton campus.

The announcement was made on November 12 at a celebration held at Laurier’s Milton Academic Centre. The bursaries will support students who face financial challenges and have shown resilience in overcoming obstacles.

Each year, up to 12 undergraduate students at the Milton campus will receive $5,000 bursaries, which can be renewed for every year of their program. Students in all programs are eligible to apply.

“This generous gift allows us to help more Milton campus students access postsecondary education,” said Laurier President Deborah McClatchy. “We are deeply thankful to the Joyce Family Foundation for creating hope and opportunity for so many young people.”

The Joyce Family Foundation, started by Tim Hortons co-founder Ron Joyce, continues his legacy of giving back to the community. Ron Joyce passed away in 2019, but the foundation remains committed to supporting education and opportunity.

Ed Lumley, board chair of the foundation, said they were excited to support Laurier’s new campus and its students. “The renewable bursaries will help students focus on their studies and achieve their potential with a Laurier education,” he said.

Laurier student leaders expressed gratitude for the gift and its impact on their future.

“At Laurier, we feel supported by a community that cares about our success,” said Ben Jesseau, president of the Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union. “Donors like the Joyce Family Foundation make it possible for students to not only attend university but thrive here.”

Amilia Perdue, chair of Laurier’s Milton Student Leadership Council and part of the first group of students at the new campus, added, “We are truly thankful to the Joyce Family Foundation for being an important part of our journey and future success.”
