A barn fire in east Milton on Tuesday afternoon left six goats dead and caused an estimated $120,000 in damage.
Matthew Townsend, Deputy Fire Chief of Operations, said crews were dispatched at approximately 1:30 p.m. to Derry Road at Eighth Line, where they encountered a fully involved barn upon arrival.
Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures but shifted to a defensive strategy after the barn collapsed.
Six goats and several chickens perished in the blaze. No injuries were reported among the property owners or responding firefighters.
At the height of the response, Milton Fire deployed seven trucks and about two dozen personnel to the scene during the 10-hour operation. Tanker assistance was also provided by neighboring departments from Mississauga and Halton Hills.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
