A woman has been accused of pretending to be a licensed massage therapist and acupuncturist, collecting $37,000 from clients over four years.
Halton Regional Police started an investigation in January and found that the woman had stolen registration numbers from real massage therapists to carry out her scam.
The police revealed on Wednesday that the suspect used these stolen numbers to create invoices for clients, who then claimed them with their insurance providers. This allowed her to offer services without proper licenses.
The investigation also showed that she provided other treatments like physiotherapy and acupuncture, working both from her home and offering mobile services.
The suspect, 49-year-old Mahvish Ahmed, was arrested and charged with 13 counts of identity fraud, one count of fraud over $5,000, and one count of fraud under $5,000.
Ahmed has been released and will appear in Milton court on August 26.
